Position Overview

Come work for one of the fastest-growing painting companies in the Washington DC Metro area. The Estimator is responsible for accurately assessing project scopes, performing on-site evaluations, preparing detailed cost estimates, and supporting the sales pipeline. This role directly impacts revenue growth by ensuring bids are competitive, profitable, and aligned with company standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable communicating with property managers, HOAs, general contractors, and homeowners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Proactively generate new business by identifying, pursuing, and developing relationships with prospective clients through outbound sales efforts, site visits, and referrals

  • Conduct on-site assessments for commercial, multifamily, HOA, and residential painting projects.

  • Measure surfaces, quantify labor and materials, and document existing conditions.

  • Prepare detailed estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

  • Create professional written proposals with clear scope, pricing, exclusions, and timelines.

  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda when applicable.

  • Ensure estimates meet margin targets and company profitability goals.

  • Update and maintain cost databases, production rates, and pricing models.

Client Interaction & Sales Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients during the estimating process.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with property managers, facility directors, HOA boards, and general contractors.

  • Attend walkthroughs, pre-bid meetings, and scope clarification calls.

  • Follow up on bids, answer questions, and assist in closing deals.

  • Build long-term relationships that drive repeat business and referrals.

Project Handoff & Collaboration

  • Provide detailed handoff packages to project managers once jobs are sold.

  • Clarify scope, materials, color schedules, and special instructions.

  • Collaborate with operations to ensure smooth transitions and accurate production planning.

  • Support field teams with scope clarifications when needed.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bid status, and job win/loss tracking.

  • Use company estimating software

  • Track production rates and update pricing based on actual field performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of painting or construction estimating experience (preferred but not required).

  • Knowledge of commercial, apartment, or HOA painting environments.

  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.

  • Experience with estimating software or CRM platforms.

  • Background in painting, carpentry, coatings, or construction management.
